What is the Bente Skansgård Independent Living Fund?

The fund was established in memory of Norwegian Independent Living pioneer Bente Skansgård. It supports projects, activities and initiatives that help remove barriers and create a more inclusive society for disabled people. The range is quite broad, from art projects and publications to courses, events, and campaigns – as long as they promote independence, self-determination and equality.

Who can apply?

The fund is open to disabled individuals, organizations, and groups who want to create positive change. If you have a project that strengthens disabled people’s right to self-determination and participation in all areas of society, this is your opportunity to receive financial support.

How to apply:

The application deadline for the Bente Skansgård Independent Living Fund is February 9, 2025, with grants awarded on the late Bente Skansgård’s birthday, May 9 of the same year. Applications (sent to bentesminnefond@uloba.no) must include a brief introduction of the applicant, a title and description of the activity, its purpose, budget, timeline, and contact information. In short you must explain how your initiative promotes freedom and understanding of the situation of us disabled people. The application may be written in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, or English, and there is no special application form. All recipients must submit a final report (and possibly interim reports if the project period exceeds a year).
